Lieutenant-Colonel Robert J. Christopher CD,


Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Christopher was born in St. Jean, Quebec in 1962. He enrolled in the Primary Reserve Student Youth Employment Program (SYEP) at age 17, joining Montreal’s 2nd Field Artillery Regiment, RCA in 1979. After achieving the rank of Sergeant he trained as a Reserve Entry Scheme – Officer (RESO) at the Combat Training Centre, Gagetown, New Brunswick and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant.  He soon after graduated with a BA from Concordia University, Montreal.

In 1989 he was hired by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and began his civilian career as an Intelligence Officer. He worked in counter terrorism.  Working in Ottawa, he transferred to 30th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA. He joined this unit as a Captain. Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher operated at 30 Fd as a Forward Observing Officer, Battery Captain, and Regimental Command Post Officer.

In 1993 CSIS transferred Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher to Toronto. There he joined 7th Toronto Regiment, RCA. It was at 7 Tor that he completed his Militia Officer Staff Course and Battery Commander’s course. Highlights of his career at 7 Tor include being Aide de Camp to then governing Ontario Premiere, the Honourable Bob Rae, and Aide de Camp to MGen H. A. Sparling CBE DSO, CD and Brigadier P. A. S. Todd, CBE, DSO, ED, CD.

In 1997 Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher was promoted at CSIS and transferred back to Ottawa, at the same time also transferring back to 30 Fd. During the 1998 ice storm he was called out to the Town of Alexandria, ON where he was the officer in charge of military aide to the civilian population.

In 1998 Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher’s twin children were born. He left CSIS for a safer more family oriented career and joined Edward Jones Investments as a financial advisor.  He moved to the Old Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and built a successful financial practice. He transferred from 30 Fd to 56 Fd Regt RCA, and in 2004 he was promoted to Major. At 56 Fd he worked as BC Field, BC HQ, and Second-in-Command, and completed his Army Operations Course at the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College.  He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in Sep 2015, and took command of 56 Fd Regt RCA.

Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher is married to Thitima Christopher and has twin children, Eric and Pylin. He is the Past President of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Lewiston Rotary club, Past President and co-founder of the Niagara Business Builders Club, and he is an Edward Jones Limited Partner. In 2004 Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher was awarded Rotary’s prestigious Paul Harris Medal for service above self to community.
